Gravel crunching under the tires of his '67 Buick Skylark GS, the Wonder Husband rolls up the driveway. With the sapphire metal flakes of the paint sparking in the low angled sun, he silences the rumble of his powerfully muscled motor. This is not his normal routine. He usually gets home from work two hours late instead of early.

His face is set with a sly grin. A come hither statement shines from his eyes. Taking my hand, he pulls me to him. A quick kiss. A whispered sentiment laid softly in my ear.

"We just have time for a quickie."

"Are you sure?"

"YES! Let's go."

Hand-in-hand, we gently let the door close behind us...

He heads for the tool shed and I head for the green waste container. He, swift and strong, goes ahead and lops the tree branches. I follow behind as clean up crew.

"Husband, do you know what today is?"

"The day after my brother's birthday?"

"Uh, no. This is two days after your brother's birthday. And you'd better call him tonight since you obviously haven't! No, it was one year ago today you were in the hospital having your heart attack. This is your one year anniversary and look how far you've come!"

I look away as a painful shudder passes over him and a remembrance, dark and deep, clouds his eyes.

"Oh. This is a much better place to be," he says quietly with a far away voice.

In no time at all, just as darkness threatened an end to our assault, we had our dropped tree limbs stuffed into two containers and wheeled out to the street for pick up. The Wonder Husband was right. We did just have time for a quickie. Now it's time to go inside for a warm and proper anniversary celebration.

Yes, those quickies are amazing. I just wish I could do more of them right now. Well, I wish that four years would go by very quickly right now, but alas they will drag on and on. And these past 4 months have seemed like forever and ever.

I am glad that WH is still doing fine. All health scares can be so frightening. About 14 years ago, hubby almost died from a bleeding stomach ulcer. If I would have gotten him to the hospital a half hour later then he would not be here today. He wanted me to let him sleep and I said, "No", which turned out to be a good thing, since we did not know exactly what was wrong with him. And I was lucky that the nurse I called knew what was wrong and was yelling at me to get him to the ER right now and not to wait for the ambulance. That was very scarey to go through. I always thank that nurse and my intuition for saving him.

I would imagine what you went through was just as scarey and so I truly hope you both have a wonderful celebration and that you have about 50 more quickies on this anniversary date.

Love the pic of the car. Makes me miss my '66 Malibu. It had the silver metallic blue paint job too. They just do not make them like they used to. Might be a good thing since I saw how the newer cars do a lot better in accidents. But as to the power, oh yeah, the older cars had all the power. Yup, I miss that car.

God bless.

smiles. glad that you reached this anniversary together...and got the quickie out of the way so you can enjoy the longie in each others arms.

ok, that was pretty terrible pun, nothing as eloquent as your words. happy for you.

Well I can think of more romantic things to do on your anniversary but hey, each to their own! Happy anniversary and so good to see he's robust enough to lop a few branches, shouldn't have any problem in the other 'department'.

Candie: Thanks. Much love to U2.

Sherry: I'm sure you'll be out having quickies of your own soon enough. Your intuition with your husband was right on wasn't it? You just can't ignore those gut instincts. Yes, I do love the power of those muscle cars. Vroom!

Brian: I LOVED your pun! It was long, too!

DUTA: Yes! Although the fear fades day by day, each day is a celebration of that victory.

Alan: Thank you and me too!

TechnoBabe: That is so sweet that you read it to your husband! I know you have your own trials. We all do, right?

Leah: Thanks! So good to have you around again.

Baino:I know I'm a little warped. There's not a whole lot I like more than a good ol' project with the WH. We just click that way, oh, and in the other "department" too.

Subby: That's right! You do like the muscle cars don't you. It is the Wonder Husband's passion. No sissy trailer queens for him. Daily drivers, all. May you and mom have a wonderful day tomorrow. Nice to see you around again.

Kate: Well, thanks so much. Sounds like you have a Wonder Man yourself. Enjoy your friends and family tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving.
