How Large is a Trillion

Sun and Moon
peteconnor1 Photobucket.com
  • A trillion:
  • 1,000,000,000,000.
  • A trillion:
  • One thousand billion, billion, billion.
  • A trillion:
  • $1 bills stacked = one hundred thousand kilometers high-1/3 of the way to the moon.
  • A trillion:
  • $1 bills placed end-to-end would be 97 million miles, almost the distance to the sun.
  • A trillion:
  • Spent at a rate of $1000 per minute would take 1,900 years to spend.

Our fiscal debt: Nearly $1 trillion

Our national debt: Nearly $10 trillion

It is mind boggling when you see the numbers. I have seen the ones about "a billion", but a trillion dollars of debt is so scarey.

But I think what is even scarier is the fact that so many Americans are having no problems with our government spending that much money, putting ourselves and our children into debt forever. I could care less what political party is spending it. I was not happy about it a few months ago and am even less happy now. Something is so wrong here and I feel helpless somehow. When will people wake up.

I would like to ask if I can send those numbers in an e-mail to some friends and family. Maybe it will help them to put it into perspective.

Of course, you can send them. Yes, it is mind boggling. I am still trying to wrap my mind around it.
